Large French retail chain Carrefour reported about increase sales after introduction blockchain system for tracking product supply chain.
The system on blockchain basis will allow users track supply chains of 20 items of products. Buyers can get detailed information, when and how goods were produced, and also what their composition contains. For receiving necessary information a purchaser just scans with the help of smartphone QR-code on product`s packaging.
Carrefour analysts have noted product sales growth, which can be tracked by blockchain. Buyers more often purchase eggs, milk, meat and other foodstuffs, if they can track their origin. It`s interesting, that young people usually buy less amount of products, but choose best quality.
“You make trust effect. A buyer thinks that, if he can check the origin of chicken, for example, so he can trust Carrefour buying apples or cheese”, – project manager for blockchain Carrefour Emmanuel Delerm stressed.
He also said, that product tracking trend is set by China, where product labelling with a QR-code is becoming common practice. However, there are still a lot of problems in the industry. For instance, not all the farmers are ready to provide the information.
Bitcoindoubler2x.com notes, that although Carrefour tracks now little percent of production, in the future the amount of products with QR-codes will increase. By the end of the year the retail giant intends to use blockchain technology for tracking 20% of its products supply.
