According to the poll published by Reddit, most cryptocurrency holders store their BTC on hardware wallets, also they have a reserve paper copy of private keys.
Reddit`s user under nickname gunnaj published results of the cryptocurrency owners survey, conducted by him while writing his doctoral thesis. He asked 339 respondents five questions related to BTC security, focusing on the way, how crypto users hold their private keys.
Almost 46% respondents answered the question “Where do you store your Bitcoins?” that they use hardware wallets like Ledger, BitLox and Trezor. Wherein, almost 17% respondents claimed that they store larger part of BTC at smartphone wallet`s apps, and 15% — on desktop wallets.
Also, the author of the research asked cryptocurrency owners how they store their private keys. 88% of poll`s participants answered that they have reserve copies of keys, and 72% said that they hold a paper reserve copy. The second popular variant of reserve keys storage is an external drive — this method is used by less than 20% respondents.
According to the survey, users prefer well-established methods of private keys storage. This can be connected with frequent exchanges hacking what resulted millionth losses for crypto assets owners.
